A ferry carrying around 100 people has capsized in a river outside the capital of Bangladesh, Dhaka, reports say.

A number of people were said to be unaccounted for after the boat went down in the Meghna River.

District administrator Saifuddin Badal told the AFP news agency that about 25 people were believed to have swum to the shore.

Ferry accidents are common on Bangladesh’s vast river network and scores of people are killed every year.
